Audio Introductions

Audio introductions are a specialist service offered by The Royal Opera House and English National Opera for their blind and visually impaired patrons.

The audio introduction is relayed over the wireless/infra red loop at the theatre shortly before the start of each performance. It can be accessed by means of a discreet, light weight headset which is available from the theatre staff.

The commentary is usually about ten minutes in length and provides production details of the setting, characters and costumes. It also contains background information about the production, and a brief synopsis of the first Act. A shorter, five minute commentary covering later scenes and Acts  is available during each interval. 

With the current closure of all theatres due to the outbreak of Covid 19.  Sightlines is  unable to supply audio descriptions or audio introductions. Currently we are working with the Royal Opera House to supply a full introduction and audio description to the productions that they are streaming via You Tube under their our house to your house initiative, and we will upload details about those performances on our Audio Described Performances page as soon as we have them.
